When collecting and storing sensitive
information such as credit card numbers or
social security numbers through your website you
are required to encrypt the communications
between the users and the website.
By purchasing a
Security Certificate, also known as a SSL
(secure sockets layer) Certificate the
information on your website will be encrypted
and secured. Your customers will know that their
transactions are secure because their browser
will display a padlock icon and the address bar
will display "https" rather than "http".
HWS offers you
two options when purchasing your Security
Certificate. You can either purchase a shared
certificate at a reduced price, or purchase an
individual certificate. Both are equally secure,
the primary difference will be what displays in
the address bar of your site when a customer is
on a secured page.
Below you will
find examples of how the different certificates
will display. When a shared certificate is
purchased the address will change to display the
secure server address. Your domain name will not
be displayed on secured pages.
When an
individual certificate is purchased your domain
name will be displayed on all pages.
